School Programs Offered by Historic Hudson Valley

1/13/2015

In service to its mission of celebrating Hudson Valley history and culture, Historic Hudson Valley runs programs designed to educate schoolchildren. The programs, which involve hands-on activities and tours led by trained guides dressed in period clothing, have been updated to align with Common Core educational standards and cater to a wide range of grade levels.

The programs take place at three different locations. Washington Irving’s Sunnyside hosts programs for children in kindergarten through 11th grade, including “A Cottage on the Hudson” and a seasonal program called “Legend Days.” Programming at Philipsburg Manor begins at the first-grade level, and the short-term “Discover Pinkster” special event planned for May 2015 will accommodate students through 12th grade. At Van Cortlandt Manor, programs include “Through Young Eyes: 18th-Century Community,” serving students in kindergarten through second grade, and “Reflections of Everyday Life” and “Crafts and Tasks,” for students in grades three through seven.
