IRPS students and faculty have made numerous major strides in medical and surgical research. Projects include basic science laboratories, research projects concerning how wounds heal, and both translational and clinical research. Currently, IRPS researchers are engaging with a number of major scientific problems, including the use of stem cells in vascular regeneration, the mechanisms of fibrosis in how wounds heal, and the regeneration of tissue in patients with diabetes.
Prior to becoming myFace, the organization then known as the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction joined with New York University in 1955 to create a world-class reconstructive surgery center. Today, the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (IRPS), located on the New York City campus of the NYU School of Medicine, offers a wide range of surgical services, educational opportunities, and charity work, with myFace as a continued partner. While myFace focuses on helping patients who require facial reconstructive surgery and providing support for their families through its Centers of Excellence, IRPS has a much wider mission that includes a great deal of scientific research.
