Today, the park attracts visitors from all over the country to enjoy hiking in colorful New England forests, boating along the scenic coastline, and many other outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, winter sports, geocaching, and cycling.
Covering more than 47,000 acres, the park encompasses a number of sights that have long attracted tourists. Two such natural wonders include the towering Cadillac Mountain—the tallest peak on the Eastern seaboard—and Thunder Hole, where the chaotic interplay between crashing waves and solid granite has carved out a cavern along the shoreline. While enjoying the park's many sights and activities, visitors can also spot a huge variety of creatures, from red-backed salamanders to humpbacked whales.
